GREAT Institute is now accepting applications for the 2024 Sailing for Mangroves Expedition. This opportunity is FREE and open to current and previous Climate Change Biology students.
The Scientific Expedition focuses on three key areas:
Academic Exchange: Facilitating collaboration between Swansea University, University of Geneva, and GREAT Institute to train science students from UTG and early career professionals on coastal and maritime scientific research in The Gambia.
Mangrove Study: Investigating mangrove ecosystems at sites along the River Gambia. Scientific data will be gathered on its health through water and sediment sampling campaigns, employing advanced measuring equipment on board the sailing ship, Fleur de Passion, a 33-meter ketch flying the Swiss flag.
Global Warming Impact: Enhancing the understanding of the role of mangroves in the context of global warming. This includes analyzing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO2 and methane, captured and originating from mangroves.
