Maiyai Taal Hocheimy Executive Director
Mrs. Hocheimy’s work is centered on climate change adaptation and mitigation in developing countries. She has over 20 years of experience in project management and strategic development, combining ecological, social, and economic perspectives using quantitative and qualitative approaches. She is a National Geographic Explorer and received her BSc from Hampton University (USA) and her MSc from the University of Southampton (UK).
Momodou ‘Jasseh’ Faal Program Officer
Mr. Jasseh joined the team in 2021 and is an undergraduate Physics major and Mathematics minor student at the University of The Gambia. Mr. Jasseh’s aim is to help in meeting the challenges facing the world today. He looks forward to pursuing a Master’s Degree in Aquatic Physics.
Fatou Sowe Communications Officer
Ms. Sowe joined the team in 2023. She is a Journalism student who is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Arts Journalism from The University of The Gambia. She is a communications enthusiast and looks forward to pursuing a Master’s Degree in Communication and Digital Marketing.
Amuzo Nkamnebe Field and Lab Technician
Ms. Nkamnebe is a graduate of the University of The Gambia with a BSc Degree in Biology. She joined the GREAT team in 2023 as an undergraduate intern and was hired in early 2024. Ms. Nkamnebe is a hardworking individual who is always looking for ways to improve her skills. She is looking forward to pursuing a Master’s Degree in Climate Change.
Abdourahman Fanneh Assistant Field and Lab Technician
Mr. Fanneh joined the GREAT Institute in 2021 as an intern and is the current Gambia Ocean Heroes Coordinator. He is an undergraduate student at the University of The Gambia majoring in Geography with a minor in Environmental Science. He looks forward to graduating and pursuing a Master’s Degree after graduation.

Mrs. Kanteh joined the GREAT Institute in 2017. She enjoys working with students, cooking, and spending time with family.
Maimuna Fatty
Community Science Leader
Ms. Fatty is an undergraduate student at the University of The Gambia, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Environmental Science. She joined the GREAT team in 2024 as a Community Science Leader. Ms. Fatty envisions leading eco-friendly Agriculture efforts and plans to pursue dual master's degrees in Environmental Chemistry and Climate Change.

Mr. Sallah joined the team in 2024 and is an undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Geography at the University of The Gambia. He is dedicated to fostering scientific literacy and community engagement and plans to pursue a master's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analytics of climate data.
Ms. Jallow is a university student majoring in Biology with a minor in Computer Science.She joined the team in 2024 as a Community Science Leader. She is passionate about the intersection of Biology and Technology and plans to pursue a master's degree in Bioinformatics.
Mr. Bojang is an undergraduate student at the University of The Gambia, majoring in Geography with a minor in Environmental Science. He joined the GREAT team in 2024 as a Community Science Leader. Known for his diligent work ethic and discipline, Mr. Bojang aims to pursue dual master's degrees in Environmental Geography, Climate Change, and Geographic Information Science.
